What is the 11 Plus?

The 11 Plus (also written “11+”) is an examination taken by students (typically aged 10–11) who are seeking entry into selective or grammar schools. The test usually assesses verbal reasoning, non-verbal reasoning, mathematics and English. Success in the 11 Plus can open doors to excellent secondary education opportunities and a strong academic foundation.

Frequently Asked Questions About the 11+

How do I know if my child is ready for the 11+?

The best way to find out is to let them try it! At Wiz Academy, we offer a free trial session where your child can experience our lessons, attempt practice questions, and get feedback from our tutors.

When can my child begin?

Your child can start with Wiz Academy at any time of the year — there’s no fixed start date. Whether it’s the beginning of the school year, mid-term, or closer to the exam, we’ll create a tailored plan so they can join smoothly and progress at their own pace.

Can I help with my child’s homework?

Absolutely! In fact, we encourage it. Supporting your child at home — even just by showing interest and discussing what they’ve learned — can make a big difference. Our tutors provide clear guidance and resources, so you’ll know exactly how to help without causing confusion

When should my child start preparing?

Most children begin light preparation in Year 3 or Year 4, gradually building skills. Focused exam preparation often begins in Year 5, giving enough time to cover the full syllabus and practise exam techniques.

If my child is sick, what do I do?

No worries at all — just let us know, and we’ll reschedule the lesson for a time that works best for you. Your child won’t miss out.

How much do you charge?

Our fees vary depending on the type of lesson — online, in-person, or one-to-one all have different prices. This way, you can choose the option that best fits your child’s needs and your schedule.

Do I need to be local to London or Birmingham to join Wiz Academy?

No — we offer fully online tutoring so students across the UK (and beyond) can benefit from our programmes.

Can I see my child’s progress?

Yes — we send regular progress reports and hold review meetings to ensure transparency and trust.
